Most of us eat at restaurants for a variety of reasons; time and convenience are the most common motives. Below is a prepared list of quick tips for eating out of your home.
If you eat healthy food or sensible portions, that you like, you can stick with eating healthy for life.
Your portions should be spaced out over the course of the day. Water should be a part of every meal.
After you eat, your stomach should be half full, or less, with food. For every two parts of food consumed, you should drink one part water. Leave your stomach at least one quarter empty for movement of air.
When eating at a restaurant, eat half a portion, maximum, and wait five or ten minutes. Restaurant portions are commonly two to four meals on a single or double plate.
This is way too much to consume at a single sitting and you may find out that, once you pause and sip your drink, you are already full.
In the Providence, RI area, there are some restaurants where the single portions could feed a family of four. No wonder a man of 200 lbs. is now considered thin. Do not make comparisons to other people. Eat to live and enjoy your food, but do not use someone else’s over indulgence as an excuse for your own.
Establish control over your appetite. Most of us feel guilty if we don’t finish a plate. This is usually conditioning from your childhood. Bury your guilty past and have the rest “wrapped to go.”
Always eat something for breakfast and never “skip it.” When you skip breakfast, you will over-consume for it, later in the day.
Eat slowly and thoroughly chew your food.
Make sure your last meal, or last “snack” of the day, is small and nutritionally dense. Examples: Cereal with fruit, vegetable salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, rice with vegetables, and light popcorn, without the extra butter and salt. For those who eat meat or fish: turkey, chicken, or salmon salad on top of fresh greens.
In the later part of your day, skip desserts, sugary cereals, bread, and second portions.
If you absolutely must have sugar: Eat fruit, strawberries with yogurt or low fat cottage cheese, fruit with rice, or almonds with yogurt.
If you must have coffee or alcohol, beware that these should be consumed in extreme moderation. Both substances will dehydrate your body, and you will have to drink extra water to make up for it. Wine is much better than hard alcohol, but one or two glasses a day is the limit.
Coffee consumption should be held to the same guidelines (one or two a day). Remember that green tea is a good substitute for coffee.
Nutritious food is not an excuse for over indulgence. Even when you eat all the right things, the volume consumed should be in moderation. It will take a lot of Sun Salutations, and Yoga classes, to make up for overeating anything.
Make your meal a meditation. Pause every few minutes, think about the amount you have eaten, be thankful for your life, and breathe.

Can fish oil control depression?
The omega 3 depression research consists of clinical trials with patients suffering from bi-polar disorder, post-partum depression and mild to moderate depression. The omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA are generally used together in these studies, but sometimes only one or the other is used. These trials and studies attempt to answer the question: can fish oil control depression? Omega 3 depression researchers use fish oil specifically because it is the best and most common source of DHA and EPA.
Omega 3 research on depression varies in methodology. One study at the University Of Arizona College Of Medicine assessed the effectiveness of omega 3 dosages ranging from a half gram per day to 2.8 grams per day on women suffering from post-partum depression. The sample size was small and no placebo group was used. Doctors used two tests to measure degree of depression before and after omega 3 supplementation. The before and after results of this omega 3 depression study showed a decrease of 48-51% in degree of depression.
The answer to the question: can fish oil control depression, based on this study, was that “results support further study of omega 3 fatty acids as a treatment for post-partum depression”.
An omega 3 depression study in London concluded that EPA was an effective treatment for bi-polar disorder. Because of the link between depression and chronic fatigue syndrome, the effectiveness of omega 3’s in treating this syndrome has been studied and concluded that patients responded favorably.
Another omega 3 depression study was actually a study that involved studying other studes (sounds confusing, but this is actually often done), and concluded that it is likely that low levels of omega 3 fatty acids in the bloodstream are linked and may, in some cases, be the cause of depression. Can fish oil control depression? Very possibly.
In general, many studies report an improvement in symptoms related to depression after supplementation of omega 3 fatty acids.
Keep in mind, no one is suggesting that anyone stop taking their anti-depressant medications. Only that adding a dietary supplement of omega 3 fish oil may help relieve some symptoms, may improve mood.

Cobalt is a component of vitamin B12, a nutritional factor necessary for the formation of red blood cells. Recent research in vitamin B12 has shown that its pink colour is attributed to the presence of cobalt in it. The presence of this mineral in foods helps the synthesis of haemoglobin and the absorption of food- iron. The best dietary sources of cobalt are meat, kidney and liver. All green leafy vegetables contain some amount of this mineral. No daily allowance has been set. Only a very small amount upto 8 mcg. is considered necessary.
The human body contains 30 to 35 mg. of manganese, widely distributed throughout the tissues. It is found in the liver, pancreas, kidney, pituitary glands.
This mineral helps nourish the nerves and brain and aids in the coordination of nerve impulses
and muscular actions. It helps eliminate fatigue and reduces nervous irritability. Manganese is
found in citrus fruits, the outer covering of nuts, grains, in the green leaves of edible plants, fish
and raw egg yolk. No official daily allowance of manganese has been established, but 2.5 to 7
mg. is generally accepted to be the average adult requirement. A deficiency of this mineral can
lead to dizziness, poor elasticity in the muscles, confused thinking and poor memory.

Often I’m asked for my top two or three tips on diet. Yet, the truth of the matter is that diet is very personal and what might be a good suggestion for you, might not be all that helpful to someone else. However, here are a few tips that are beneficial to anyone.
Allow yourself one cheat meal a week. If you are just starting out, a cheat day, if you need it. (It doesn’t have to be greasy foods. It can be fruit or a carb loaded protein bar).
Listen to your body and respect it. For example, since starting this lifestyle, I can’t eat certain things (junk food; processed foods) any more. When I ignore that, my body lets me know and it isn’t pretty. I strongly believe, my body wants to be healthy and function at %110. When you reach the point of craving oats & blueberries, it (my body) doesn’t want to go back to the days of eating unhealthy foods..
If you can add GLUCORELL to your diet. Carry a few with you, for those social/work events you have to attend. Or, if you have a bad day and need to have something bad to get through the day. If you have blood sugar issue or a family history of diabetes, it is the best supplement out there.
Keep your fridge & pantry full of clean foods. Don’t bring temptation into your home.

Welcome back to part 7, if you have implemented the recommendations we have made so far you will have gone a long way toward protecting your home. Nobody can promise that you will not fall victim to a thief, so in this article I want to give you a few tips on how you can help the police retrieve your goods if it should be stolen.
Make an inventory of your property.
Keep a list of your processions in a secure place, perhaps in a safe deposit box or with a friend, this will help the police if you do have a burglary, and it will also help to support a claim if you have a house fire or some other kind of loss.
The better the job you do on the property inventory the more help it will be. Now that digital cameras are readily available take pictures of all the rooms in your home and their contents. In case of a loss by fire or flood etc. it will help you in your claim with your insurance provider.
On your property list, show, which room the goods, were in. Describe the article as fully as feasible; include the manufacturer model number, size, color, and the material the article is made of as well as its price. It is also a good idea to include damage marks, repairs, etc because these are unique to your things.
Mark your goods with your Post Code, your Drivers License Number or some other number that is exclusive to you but do not use your Social Security number! Properly marked property is hard for a burglar to sell on to someone else, and it makes it easier to trace them back to you.
Always mark your assets by engraving in an area that cannot be simply removed and is not in plain sight, if you cannot engrave the thing use a permanent marker or an ultra violet pen. Some items are not suitable for marking and this is where a digital or video camera comes into its own.
Now that you have a catalogue of your property make certain you keep it up to date!
Having marked your property make sure that any possible burglar knows about it, a small sticker displayed on doors and windows will do the job. These are generally available from your local police station or crime prevention officer.
Burglary is the most frequent form of theft in the United States; by marking your property you are taking an important step in protecting your home and avoiding the distress that this type of home invasion causes.
In the next part of this series I will be giving you a few dos and don’ts to help you with your personal and home security, see you soon.

You can secure your peace of mind by buying individual health plans to see you through the rough days, when the spiraling costs of medical bills will only add to your woes. Usually people are satisfied by the health plan options offered by their companies, because such plans save them from the headache of hunting for a suitable health plan on their own, as well as the formality of doing the necessary paper work. You should select an individual health plan that will guarantee you maximum care at an affordable price.
Before deciding upon the health plan that suits your needs, you should first be aware of the plans that exist in the market. These plans can be broadly categorized under managed health care plans and fee-for-service health plans.
Managed health care plans are comparatively cheaper than the fee-for-service health plans. However, if you need to be hospitalized, then you’ll first need the approval of the insurance company — otherwise you may not be covered for the medical and hospital bills.
Fee-for-service are the traditional health care plans and offer you the freedom to choose your own service providers and hospitals. At the same time, these plans are more expensive than managed care plans.
To decide which plan suits you best, you need to consider many factors. For example, you may be traveling frequently. If you choose the managed care health program, you may face difficulties, since the doctors and hospitals covered by these plans are restricted. If the listed medical professionals are not present in your area, you will not be covered for the medical bills.
You must become very familiar with how your plan works if you are going to ensure quality medical care. Some plans have their report cards, which are reports of surveys conducted on consumer feedback, preventive care, follow-ups of test results and more. Also, keep a lookout for magazine articles rating health plans. Additionally, you can also talk to the current members of the plan to get their feedback.

Sometimes we are unaware of what coverages we have with our homeowners insurance until we file a claim and find out too late that we weren’t covered for a particular loss. Owners of motorcycles, boats and motorhomes may be surprised to learn that neither their homeowners insurance nor their auto insurance covers them for any loss associated with these items.
Non-traditional (or inland marine as some policies are called) insurance is a custom sector of insurance dealing with properties and items that would not traditionally fall under a typical property or automobile insurance. Such items include boats, snowmobiles, ATV’s and person watercraft. You may find that your current insurance company does not even write policies for these types of goods, in which case you will need to check out a specialty insurance company.
Foremost Insurance of Caledonia, Michigan is just such an insurer. Insuring everything from motor homes to motorcycles Foremost offers a wide variety of policies that protect non-traditional goods that homeowners policies simply don’t cover. With agents across the United States, Foremost is a leader in issuing policies that cover losses against such goods. Foremost is part of Farmers Insurance Group, a trusted name in both homeowners and auto insurance throughout the U.S.
Accidents happen no matter if we are in our home, car or riding our ATV. By making sure you are covered you can prevent a small accident from becoming a financial nightmare by making sure you have the correct insurance coverage no matter what you might own.

There seems to be fairly poor tracking by any formal standards once a product is approved as a food additive. Despite supposedly tracking adverse reactions, the reality has been different at the FDA. Aspartame is a case in point. Apparent collusion, distorted research reports, lack of funding for independent research, questionable practices in tracking adverse reactions and reporting them. It’s a pretty ugly sounding story. It’s been said that Aspartame is a contract on humanity. Here’s one source you might find puts you off Aspartame for good: http://www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/suffer.faq - “Reported Aspartame Toxicity Effects”.
Are the estimates (in the report above) of the real number of toxic reactions accurate? I’m no epidemiologist but what struck me was the large number of serious toxic reactions reported by pilots. My conclusion — I won’t use the stuff. And there are suggestions that the offshoot - Neotame - may be even worse.
Everyone pretty much knows the kinds of problems that have been reported with cyclamates and Saccharin. Weirdly - perhaps bad tracking? - the actual dangers still seem unclear after many years of use. However, as I read it, they seem to be substantially less toxic than some more recent artificial sweeteners.
Splenda is the latest and greatest. Reportedly manufactured from sugar by substituting 3 chlorine atoms for 3 hydroxyl groups, some claim that the end product is not what it should be. Apparently if it were made from sugar then when you dissolve it in water (hydrolyze), it ought to produce chlorinated glucose which is a known toxin. Instead it produces chlorinated monosaccharides.
Splenda, or sucralose, is a chlorocarbon. Chlorocarbons have an illustrious history, being known for causing organ, reproductive and genetic damage. Whether sucralose (Splenda) is as safe as the manufacturer claims (which is pretty much what manufacturers always claim) remains to be seen. Here is another reference worth taking a look at: http://www.mercola.com/2000/dec/3/sucralose_dangers.htm - “Secret Dangers of Splenda”.
Andrew Weil, MD has some pertinent - and more moderate comments on Aspartame and Splenda here: http://www.drweil.com/u/QA/QA106654/ - “Aspartame: Can a Little Bit Hurt”. He suggests using the “precautionary” principle - which basically says if there are questions about the safety of a product, don’t use it.
At this point, I think it’s my head that’s spinning. I’m uncertain whether Splenda is safe, reasonably safe, slightly risky or seriously risky. When I looked at the manufacturer’s site and a couple other sites that were all enthused about Splenda, I didn’t see any answers to the points the critics are making. Mostly it’s all lightness, sweetness and the miracle of modern science.
Like you I’ve seen some miracles of modern science turn into nightmares when the testing wasn’t adequate, when the results were fudged, when coverups went on. So questions exist about all the artificial sweeteners. Splenda may be less dangerous than Aspartame (which I sure wouldn’t recommend to anyone). Long-term and independent studies are lacking. And here’s the real kicker:
***** From Consumers’ Research Magazine “There is no clear-cut evidence that sugar substitutes are useful in weight reduction. On the contrary, there is some evidence that these substances may stimulate appetite.”
Now that just tears it. Risk your health using one of these chemicals and then end up eating more because it stimulates your appetite. Terrific.
So what alternatives are there? Surprisingly there are quite a few. One interesting alternative is a South American plant called Stevia. Apparently once considered a potential threat to the sugar industry, it seems to have been deep-sixed early in the twentieth century. It has been used as a sweetener for centuries by South American natives. In the U.S., it seems (somehow) to have been kept from being available as an “additive” and the FDA has said not enough studies have been done. Yet it’s widely used by diabetics and in countries such as Japan and Brazil. Stevia is available at health stores as a supplement (though without any indication that it could be used as a sweetener). It’s a fascinating story which you can read here: http://www.stevia.net/ - The Stevia Story
More information on alternative sweeteners is in our article: http://www.carb.werkz.org/healthier-sweeteners.php - “Healthier Alternatives to Artificial Sweeteners.”
Our health is challenged on all sides these days. New chemicals, new additives, genetically engineered foods, highly processed foods, empty calories, stress and pollution all pose threats to our bodies. I’ve come to the conclusion that the fewer highly processed, chemically enhanced, questionably assessed, factory created products we ingest, the better off we will probably be.
Our bodies evolved as a part of the natural world and though we are changing the world radically (which is only natural, it is what people do after all), our bodies do not evolve and adapt at the rate technology changes. And for scientific, political and economic reasons, the quality and thoroughness of evaluations done on newly created products don’t match up to our industrial creativity.
Finally, balancing the need to lose weight (or maintain an optimum weight) against potential risks creates difficult choices. It’s up to you to make the best choice you can for your specific situation — just remember, that old saw still holds - Let the buyer beware.

In today’s world countless people prefer procuring their swimwear online; shopping online is an easy and fitting way to shop in the freedom of your own house. Find designer lingerie and swimwear brands from around the world at Becheeky, visit BeCheeky.com.
It’s critical to guarantee while purchasing swimwear online that it defiantly fits you When you procure swimwear on the World Wide Web always be sure that the shop supplies a useful quality sizing chart that highlights all of the measurements you may require. With the aid of a sizing chart one can make sure to buy a swimsuit or bikini that fits perfectly, as a result reducing the need to switch for an alternative size. By and large most of the swimwear retail stores do not provide an exchange of goods so it is typically always better to pick an online shop where exchanges are allowed. Some retail shops will accept the returns of swimwear if the tags & the original wrapping are also returned along with it.
Swimwear is an expected factor of the summer; despite this a large majority of full-figured females feel daunted at the thought of shopping for swimsuits and bikinis that fit correctly. These women even think about wearing caftans by the swimming pool or at the beach rather than looking unattractive. Designers and shopkeepers have indentified the fashion issues of the larger woman, & are at last featuring a wide selection of stylish bathing suit designs in XXL sizes, and one of the best places to discover such swimwear is to buy swimwear on the Web.

Alright, so the New Year is upon us and this is the year that many people will make the fitness changes stick. If you are starting to workout and have no clue what you are doing, then I suggest you hire a personal trainer for a few sessions to get you on track. But not only do you need to know what to do and how to do it, when you get to the gym, you also need to understand that there are certain things that you can and cannot do that are deemed acceptable or unacceptable in the gym environment.
To help you along, I am providing some unspoken rules to help ease your transition into the fitness workout. Some of these rules are a little tongue and cheek, but they really should be considered when you go to the gym. I will signify which rules are tongue in cheek, just in case you can’t figure it out.
1. More gyms are starting to implement this, but you should really wipe off each machine that you are on, especially if you leave sweat trails everywhere you go. Nothing is worse than having that slimy sweat spot oozing down the seat of the machine you want to work on. It is alright to sweat, and some of you sweat a lot, but it is not cool to let everyone know which machines you have been on by leaving sweat behind.
2. This is more of an attire thing, but please, especially guys, do NOT where knee high dark socks with tennis shoes at the gym. This seems to be a nice fad with 50 year old men, but it was never really the “in” thing. So leave them at home. (Somewhat sarcastic, but I wouldn’t try it).
3. You go to the gym or the personal training studio to work out, so don’t dress to impress. Ladies, please don’t spend a half hour on your makeup and hair before you lift and guys, don’t drown yourself in the cologne. This also applies to offensive body odor. (Once again, sarcasm is here, but try this and see what comments you get).
4. Please, let other people work in with you on exercise machines. Do not sit at a machine, read your paper, and not let anyone workout for the next 20 minutes while your busy seeing if your stocks went up. Be considerate to others.
5. Don’t get territorial with the machines either. You can’t claim to be working on three different machines at once. Understand that you will have to let people do their workouts. If you don’t like that, then buy your own equipment and stay at home.
6. On the flip side, if you want to work in with someone on a machine, for Pete’s sake, ask them. Don’t just stand there staring at them, assuming they know you want to work in. Nice people are more than happy to let you work in, but open your mouth and say “please.”
7. Take the stupid weights off of the machine you just used. Nothing irritates me more when some big behemoth puts 10 plates on a side, yells and screams while he tries to do the exercise, then leaves all the weight on the bar for someone to spend 10 minutes taking the weights off. If you’re strong enough to put it on, then please be considerate and take it off.
8. If you are wearing your I-pod or walkman, that is great, but keep the volume down so I don’t have to hear the music with you. Also, please don’t sing at the top of your lungs either. I don’t need to hear your rendition of Motley Crue’s “Girls, Girls, Girls.”
9. If you are exerting a lot of energy lifting weights, you can let out some type of yell, but don’t let the whole gym hear it. Also, make sure you don’t sound like you are auditioning for Meg Ryan’s fake orgasm scene from When Harry Met Sally. Please, record yourself lifting and get friends’ advice about your yell before you attempt this in public. (A little bit of sarcasm, but it is funny to hear someone scream if they do it constantly and sound like they could be enjoying it, if you catch my drift).
10. Finally, please don’t wear the butt-hugger shorts or wear tight shirts if your belly hangs out so far that you can’t see your feet. (Just a touch of sarcasm).
These are some items people don’t really tell you, but I think will help ease you back into that new fitness routine.
