Depending on which part of London you live in, driving to Gatwick is probably much easier than driving to Heathrow, and fortunately Gatwick Airport parking is usually quite a bit easier as well. Not too long ago most of the car parks near Gatwick were very expensive and hard to get a spot at, but now there are many new parks off the airport from which to choose, so the whole thing has suddenly become much more manageable. Several large hotels near the airports are surrounded by large car parks, and they’ve begun hiring out the extra spaces to outbound travelers, and this has helped keep competition high.
Another big issue that people worry about is whether or not the car park they drive to is going to be full or not just before their flight out. Some of these places to sell out and are completely full, especially on weekends or during bank holiday periods, but many of the better parks now have reservation systems where you can prepay and you’ll have a spot waiting for you when you arrive. If you are like most people, you have been running behind schedule once or twice before a flight, so the advantages of booking airport parking in advance are pretty clear.
